NEWSDAY: The Narrative leads LI contingent into CMJ Marathon

The Narrative played last year CMJ and returned to another showcase for the band's songs looking for more attention to their music. With the release of the debut album Self-Titled on 2010. The journal NewsDay talked with the band about this year CMJ and you can read the interview below by Glenn Gamboa:

Photo credit: Handout | Bellmore's "The Narrative" played CMJ last year. Since then they released their debut album, gone on national tours and heard their music used on MTV shows. They're back at the music festival this year.

For Bellmore's The Narrative, getting picked to play last year's CMJ Music Marathon felt like validation.

"It was an achievement," says singer-keyboardist Suzie Zeldin. "Finally, someone let us play CMJ."

In the year since their CMJ debut, The Narrative has released its eponymous debut, gone on national tours and heard its music used on several MTV shows. And now, The Narrative is ready to play the festival again, hoping the indie-popsters will continue their momentum.

"There are so many things to distract people in New York," says Zeldin, adding that The Narrative will play two shows this year, The Big Picture Media Showcase at the Bowery Poetry Club on Tuesday and The Gramercy Theatre on Wednesday. "But with CMJ, so many people spend a week focusing intensely on music - both the music that's coming here and the music that's made here. We hope it'll get us some more exposure."

The Narrative is part of a large Long Island contingent looking to get more exposure at CMJ this year [...]

The Narrative story: What is The Narrative first song ever released?

First photo on January Window (The Narrative) Myspace

The story of The Narrative band start with Jesse Gabriel on 2006 posting a letter to Craigslist looking for another musician to join him at a band project. He was looking for New York musicians and one of the answers for this Craigslist Ad was from Suzie Zeldin. The two soon after find out that they had attended at the same school and never met each other there. The band so decided to name themselves as 'January Window' from a Sylvia Plat poem. The band created their first MySpace page. Under the name of January Window, The Narative released their first song on January 01, 2007 titled 'End All Arrival' (that was later released on the band's debut album). January Window decided on changing their name to The Narrative Paradigm, but was too wordy, so with a short version, they became The Narrative.

End All Arrival "is" still available on MySpace, but there's no way on playing it. But, we saved the audio and reuploaded it on YouTube. You can stream The Narrative (January Window) first debut song 'Enad All Arrival' below.
